The Legendary Guitar of Jason Becker (Hot Licks)

11:01 PM |

The Legendary Guitar of Jason Becker (Hot Licks)

The tragic and ultimately heroic story of one of the most awe-inspiring and innovative metal guitar heroes of the eighties. As co-member of Cacophony, with Marty Friedman, Becker defined the liquid-smooth super-complex playing style that characterised the Los Angeles guitarists of the decade. After being diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's Disease in the early nineties, Becker has continued to play and compose. This DVD features rare and archive footage of both Cacophony and many solo performances. Furthermore, the film includes Becker's guitar clinic at the Atlanta Institute of Music, giving a poignant insight into this legendary figure. [Download]

10 Questions for the Dalai Lama (2006)

10 Questions for the Dalai Lama (DVDrip - 2006)
English | 86 min | XVid 576x432 | 192 kbps 2.0AC3 | 23 fps | 700 mb | VOMiT
Genre : Documentary | ftp2share 4 mirrors

When the filmmaker Rick Ray arrived in India to direct a travel video, an interview with the Dalai Lama was supposed to be part of his compensation. When he discovered that he would have to arrange it himself, he did, by e-mail. The result is 10 Questions for the Dalai Lama a tedious title for an anything-but-tedious film. “How do you reconcile a commitment to non-violence when faced with violence? Why do the poor often seem happier than the rich? Must a society lose its traditions in order to move into the future?”.

While filming a travelogue in India, Rick Ray had the great opportunity to conduct an intimate interview with the Dalai Lama. Filmed during a private visit to his monastery in Dharamsala, India over the course of several months, this intimate portrait reveals the frankness and open-mindedness of this unorthodox holy man.Expertly merging the mystical and the mundane, Mr. Ray presents a warm and well-rounded portrait of his subject, his Buddhist philosophies and the painful circumstances of his exile.

When he was a teenager 20 years ago, Tony Comes says a Catholic priest in his Ohio hometown sexually abused him. Humiliated and ashamed, Tony carried the secret with him into adulthood, even as he married, had two kids and became a firefighter. He shared the truth only with his parents and wife. But when Tony recently learned that the same priest now lived down the street, he decided to take action -- even if it meant going public.

PBS - The Elegant Universe

9:11 PM |

PBS - The Elegant Universe
English | Xvid | 704×400 | MP3 | 192kbps | ~500MB | RS.com

The Elegant Universe brings to light many ideas of the universe and existence. After
watching this documentary, one can't help but take a step back and rethink their view on the
existence of everything. There is a large cast of scientists, mathematicians and others on both
sides of String Theory. It is continually brought into question as untested, untestable, and
possibly dead wrong. The closest to proselytizing that anyone does is to explain that Quantum
Physics, the set of mathematical ideas that give extremely good approximations of what happens
to sub-atomic particles, has never made an incorrect prediction. Not so with String Theory;
no one is willing to say, on-camera, that String Theory is the truth, and in so doing, the piece
retains a certain respectful distance from the subject

Yoga : Conditioning for Weight Loss

8:48 PM |

Whilst the ancient discipline of yoga is not traditionally associated with the modern desire to be slim, yoga's popularity with celebrities like Geri and Madonna have made people aware that it can be used for weight loss. But don't expect aerobic style yoga with Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss from lifestyle specialists Gaiam

Anyone new to yoga is best off starting with the extra yoga session which provides an excellent introduction to yoga from Patricia Walden. Her advice, that it is better to practise for short periods every day (instead of one hour a week), is particularly pertinent to weight loss. Regular practice changes the mind--which in turn changes the body.

Suzanne Deason's specially designed session incorporates a 10-minute warm-up to loosen the muscles, a core segment which works out the muscles and creates awareness of the body and a toning, relaxing cool down. Though designed with four progressive levels of fitness, featuring four teachers practising simultaneously, following one's appropriate level can be confusing. Though stunning, the Sedona setting combined with the soft American voice, the meditative music and the slow pace is very New Age. It's a sound session, but for those fired up to lose weight it's not engaging or motivating enough. --Lorna V

PBS Special - The Armenian Genocide

9:50 PM |

PBS Special - The Armenian Genocide
English | Xvid | 704×400 | MP3 128kbps | 700MB | RS.com

This is the story of the first genocide of the 20th century â€â€ when more than one million Armenians died at the hands of the Ottoman Turks during World War I. The powerful documentary features never-before-seen historical footage of the events and key players of one of the major untold stories of the 20th century. It is narrated by Julianna Margulies and includes historical narrations by Ed Harris, Natalie Portman, Laura Linney and Orlando Bloom, among others. Filmed in the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, Turkey and Syria, The Armenian Genocide features discussions with Kurdish and Turkish citizens in modern-day Turkey who speak openly about the stories told to them by their parents and grandparents. To this day, the Turkish government denies that the genocide occurred and maintains this position steadfastly. “As Turkey seeks to join the European Union, 90 years later, this film can give people a much better understanding of why this issue is such an important and current part of the international conversation about Turkey’s role in the world today,” says Andrew Goldberg, the program’s producer, director and writer.

Armenian Genocide: Exploring the Issues

Hosted by NPR’s Scott Simon, this 30-minute documentary chronicles the events that led to the deaths of more than one million Armenians during World War I. Its intent is not to “balance” the documentary but to further explore the question of how historians can come to such divergent conclusions about these events. As Scott Simon acknowledges in the follow-up discussion, bringing together these two sides is almost unprecedented. The program features four panelists:
Taner Akcam, Ph.D. (visiting associate professor of history, University of Minnesota), Peter Balakian, Ph.D. (professor of the humanities, Colgate University), Justin McCarthy, Ph.D. (professor of history, University of Louisville) and Ömer Turan, Ph.D. (associate professor of history, Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey).
